Seishin (Spirit) Series - Tamahagane/Oroshigane
traditional made sword

Our Premium sword line from Select Swords are handmade Oroshigane/Tamahagane made by our Master sword smiths. One being the renowned Chen Rong Liang "Richard Chen" art name of (Takemoto). Our Master smiths create swords made out of smelted iron called Oroshigane/Tamahagane. These hand-crafted pieces make each sword truly a work of art earning a special place in any Dojo or Home.

The Chinese government arranged the famous sword smiths of China to go to Japan for a cultural and learning exchange for revival of ancient sword making. While studying in Omuta City in Fukuoka prefecture, and after many travels to Japan our Master smiths learned about traditional Japanese sword making and polishing techniques. The traditional forging and polishing manner learned are used exclusively for these swords.

The sword smiths use an Ancient formula to create tamahagane steel for there swords.  Making Tamahagane steel is a long and labor intensive process which starts with select Iron and other Natural materials. We have gathered a few of the highest grade smiths traditionally trained to work with us.

Sword Description

Our traditional hammer folded tamahagane swords use granular flakes that are smelted in a similar way as Japanese tamahagane. The traditional handmade blade has a gorgeous natural hamon produced by clay tempering the blade. The blade is hand finished with polishing stones to make the many folded layers and the hamon visually striking to the eye. The blade is mounted with a wood core handle with fittings (fuchi/kashira). The silk handle wrapping (ito) is done in proper Hineri-maki (diamond style) with paper wedges called hishigami over ornaments (menuki) on top of white stingray skin. The iron hand guard (tsuba) is in various shapes with highlights to accent the theme design. The sheath (saya) are finished in lacquer with stingray skin finished with buffalo horn fittings and a nice woven shigeuchi style sageo cord on the sheath. "Hamon patterns will vary slightly from blade to blade" as they are hand made.

Our Master sword smiths and Apprentices make unique one of a kind swords in small amounts. Please note: that they are a small family run forge, not a factory or a mass producer of swords and knives. A quality sword takes time to create. Polishing a sword is a time-consuming process, especially when done by hand. Rather than use buffing machines, smiths hand-polish using a series of graduated stones imported from Japan. This process can take more than thirty hours and utilizes multiple stones of diminishing degrees so that final stages leave “scratches” that are actually smaller than the structural variations in the steel itself.

Please allow 3 to 4 weeks from time of purchase to have the sword assembled and shipped

This class is for the high-level martial artist and collector. Tamahagane is a Japanese type of steel that is used to make samurai swords and knives. It is unique to Japan and was traditionally created in a process that took days. Swordsmiths would smelt iron sand and charcoal in a tatara furnace until the iron and carbon elements fused together, making tamahagane steel. Each of our swords are handcrafted with the utmost care and attention to detail in the traditional steel. All of our swords are sharp and can cut, whether you want to use your sword or as the centerpiece of your collection, the tamahagane steel sword will not disappoint. This collection prides itself with a unique steel quality with modern kesho hadori polish and beautiful subtle folding lines also known as hada.
